Old video but I just brought a 3d printer. $50 resin can make a 2k army.... 3d printing isn't hurting GW income since the people who are printing are not buying gw to start with so yge person who just printed a few army's wasn't going to drop $1000 on a army when they can do it for $50

Biggest factory not mentioned: temperature in the room the printer is in. I printed in a 73 degree room at 3.5s just fine, moved my setup to the basement and had to print at 5s to pass the cones of calibration test. The basement is at least 10 degrees colder than my upstairs. Lessons learned.

The "should/shouldn't" framing is so odd, because all of these cases are such a confluence of interest, ability, money, time, access, etc., etc. ,etc.

So personally I see the issue of people 3d printing an entire army that ends up costing 20% or less of what the same army would have cost them if they bought official GW models the same way that I view piracy of video games and movies. That is that 95% of the time the arguments being made simply don't apply. Given the option between an official affordable and convenient option or a cheaper but more cumbersome option that results in generally lower quality the vast majority of players will take the official option even if does end up being more expensive. It is only when either the price of that official option is completely outside the realm of what a person could reasonably afford or when the process to access the official product is either limited or hostile to the consumer that people will start to really look at those other unofficial options. This is where GW products are right now. It is not uncommon for a full 40k army to run upwards of $1500-$2000 that is a lot of money even for people living in wealthy countries and for anyone living outside of the top 40-50 wealthiest countries it's complete infeasible for over 90% of the population. If someone can buy a 3D printer for around $150 and get a full army with just 3-4 bottles of resin that cost $30 each that brings that down to something that is a lot more accessible for people who are willing to put in the extra effort that comes with the process of 3D printing. Keep in mind that the actual cost to GW is likely very comparable to the raw costs of 3D printing. There is literally no reason that hero units from GW should be priced and $40-$50+ for a single 28mm model GW could reduce their prices by 50% and still make a profit. This is a problem that GW has created for themselves by pricing so many of their customers out of the market. The issue here is that when someone prints out a full army GW isn't losing $2000 of revenue because the person who did that was NEVER going to spend $2000. It's not a lost sale because if that person couldn't use a 3D printer they just wouldn't have an army. If GW's price for that army was $600 then maybe there is an argument that 3D printing is hurting GW but when the price is simply too high for someone to pay it's not a lost sale if someone uses an alternative option. GW lost that sale as soon as they set the price of their own product. That's the reality.

Fuck GW. I print because they're greedy and they deserve to go out of business.

It's like Game workshop marks up everything tenfold making gate of entry too expensive for the average person to participate in they need to make 2-3 factions like 70% cheaper for a basic patrol box. 250$ as a basic patrol, not even a full army of 2000 points for tournament level armies is unacceptable.

If 3d printing bankrupts GW the game will then belong to the people. Sure we don't get new releases but that's never been a problem for people making custom proxies. We'll all still have codex and rule books and there's plenty of home venues and lgs that aren't warhammer shops. They can't stop people from playing and organizing events. It will be just the same way people still play discontinued games and it will drive up the resale price on original models, so the people who invested in GW models can easily recoup their money and then some. On the other hand if you never intended to buy the originals and your focus is 3d printing then did they really lose any revenue? You can honestly change the world by how people decide to spend their money.

Sick, just getting into dnd and It’s so overwhelming. There’s so many products out there and some cost so much Its hard to decide which eye candy to pick or hard to justify price. Those dungeon sticks are gonna be my best bet ! I Don’t have a 3d printer but my local library does and they only charge you the cost of the material so I can definitely start my journey easier and faster than I thought with some table scatter terrain.

Understandable and i will from now on print my own proxy stand in yu-gi-oh, and magic cards for non official tournaments. or is this different? i get 3d printing for models to paint, but for playing meeh i really dont like it. conversions of gw models fine changed parts im cool but everything someone is not made themselfs and buyed from a third party im not okay with. but thats my opinion. as example if someone remeber the My Little Pony Braton Army? This Army was Amazing but i wouldnt accept it as opponent.

That's a great idea. Especialy with the Mars 3 Vat being so terrible at pouring! But how do you clean the machine itself? don't you have a mess of sticky resin in the subes or the machine? Do you have it suck up some Ipa then water to clean it up?

That's good beer, brother. Still holds up 2 years later when people are dumping all kinds of cash into The Old World. I don't really play so much, but between Fantasy, 40k, AOS, and Star Wars Legion, I have built and painted around 20 armies. I will say this; I have printed an entire Chaos Dwarf army, sitting in a box, waiting to be painted. I already printed a whole-ass Beastmen army and painted it. I love the feeling of trimming and cleaning some brand new printed models. Printing minis is an entire expression of joy on it's own. I ALSO still absolutely love the feeling of cracking open a new regiment box of any faction, from any system. That being said, if I don't play much, and I really just love to build armies, no one can't stop me from printing. Print-haters also can't fight me over it, because I'm on the internet. Also, good tie.

Honestly if they started selling reasonably priced model prints to the 3d community (ie between $3-15 USD at maximum for the big models) then they'll capitalize on that lost market, maybe enough to start charging less for the box sets 👀

Our group has been playing Warhammer since 1984 and we added 40K in 1987. We' re a group of old retired IT guys that have been playing together for roughly 20 years. We get together twice a week to escape our wives, drink beer, and hold campaign events. It's part of our life. We've all spent tens-of-thousands on our hobby over the years. However, after Warhammer and GW changed the lore to fit some woke narrative that 3% of people support, we decided to go our own way. There's 2 graphic designers in the group who will design our own models and we bought a couple of 3D printers to print them. We don't need Amazon, Warhammer, or GW to continue to enjoy our hobby. And, quite frankly there isn't jack GW or Warhammer can do about it because we play in our own homes. We'll miss going to shops and tournaments, but hey, we can't drink beer there anyway.

I had some good results with my standard 0.4mm nozzle, but i wasn’t happy enough with the details and thought a 0.2mm nozzle could help. It was a bit better, but not much, so now i’m looking for better settings. Would the settings be different if i have a 0.2mm nozzle? If these settings work on my ender 5 pro, I’ll definitely buy some stl’s to support you.

To be honest, the fact that Warhammer players will buy a professional piece of equipment, learn how to use it from ground up and how to sculpt in 3d softwares just to not pay these ridiculous prices really tells you how fucking corrupt GW is.

It might be illegal, but, printing a model that GW refuses to make and sell itself is not a morally wrong thing to do.

If only exposure time was the key to great prints, all these these prints are meaningless if you are not controlling all your other variables. Ambient temp leads to more fails than exposure time. For me its Cones of Calibration every time with a new resin as 90% of my prints are pre-supported patreon/MMF prints
